Sturgis man arrested, charged after Elkhart pursuit in stolen vehicle

We now have more information about the man taken into custody after a stolen vehicle pursuit and foot chase, late last week, in Elkhart.
Investigators say Joshua Schultz, 25, of Sturgis was booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of Meth, Auto Theft, and Resisting Law Enforcement-Vehicle.
His bail was set at $10,000.
The pursuit happened early Friday morning, March 8, when officers tried to stop a potentially stolen vehicle in North Nappanee Street and Kilbourn Street.
The person driving the car fled, leading to a chase that ended when the suspect abandoned the vehicle at Aeroplex Drive and Kinro Court.

Over the weekend, a judicial officer set bail for a male subject arrested by Elkhart Police Department officers in a March 8, 2024, stolen vehicle pursuit and foot chase. Male subject, Joshua Schultz, 25 years old of Sturgis, MI, was arrested on March 8th and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony; Auto Theft, a Level 6 Felony; and Resisting Law Enforcement-Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony.
Schultz is accused of leading Elkhart Police Department Officers on a five minute vehicle pursuit after he fled from a traffic stop at N Nappanee St/Kilbourn St in a stolen vehicle (reported stolen out of St. Joseph County, MI). He allegedly ditched the vehicle after crashing into a retention pond off Kinro Ct near Aeroplex Dr. Officers, with the assistance of K9, located Schultz nearby in a semi-truck cab parked in a lot at 2108 Kinro Ct.
An Elkhart County Judge found probable cause for the arrest and set bail at $10,000. This arrest has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.
