Suspect in 2021 homicide sentenced to 65 years in prison

A suspect convicted for a 2021 homicide in South Bend has learned his fate.
In the early morning hours of Sep. 12, 2021, South Bend Police responded to a shooting in the 800 block of East Washington Street. There, they found Montell O’Neal, 24, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
It took until June 2023 to arrest the suspect, Javante Walker, who admitted taking aim on O’Neal at a house party.
Last month, a jury found Walker guilty of murder and a firearm enhancement.
On Wednesday of this week, he was sentenced to 65 years in prison: 55 years for the killing. 10 for the firearm enhancement.
