Elkhart has reopened their oldest cemetery to the public.

Grace Lawn Cemetery on Middlebury Street was closed in mid-February after erosion concerns on the western edge of the property. A shift in dirt and trees had been noticed that impacted a few headstones.

Fencing has been installed after a number of city departments came together to study the situation and determine that a loss of tree roots were to blame. The affected headstones were successfully recovered and replaced without damage.
