The Michigan State Police have made changes to their pursuit policy, in an effort to reduce the risks involved.

On Thursday, the State Police said they were aligning their pursuit policy with best practices that will protect the lives of innocent bystanders and enforcement members in Michigan. The new policy, which went into effect immediately, states troopers may only engage in a pursuit if there is a probable case to believe the driver or occupant of the pursued vehicle has committed a life-threatening or violent felony.

There were 236 pursuits by troopers in the state last year, and there have already been 33 this year. The US Department of Justice says on average, crashes occur in at least 30% of vehicle pursuits, with injuries or fatalities in as many as 17% of chases.

Great, so you’ll save injuries to the 17% of the people injured in chases, but you’ll have more people fleeing and driving recklessly because they know they won’t be pursued.

I bet more people will end up dying as a result of this soft-on-crime policy.

Once again, our state is run by morons.
