Some Elkhart schools have been impacted by the tornado and storm damage that occurred earlier this week.

Four Elkhart Community Schools buildings sustained structural and electrical damage, as well as damage to the sidewalks and surrounding properties.

Superintendent Dr. Larry Huff says additional food service sites at Monger Elementary and Hawthorne Early Learning Center are open through August 2nd.

Free meals will be available for students 18 and under. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11a.m.-12 p.m.

Huff says they’re working to get all the damage repaired and schools will be ready to welcome students for the Jumpstart program, scheduled to begin this coming Monday.

The Red Cross has opened a shelter at Concord West Side Elementary. It’s offering 24-hour shelter and resources for those impacted.
