Nappanee man killed in single-car crash

A Nappanee man was killed in a crash on County Road 9, south of County Road 44.
The collision happened around 12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
The driver, Christopher Manhardt, 21,lost control of his 2021 Chevrolet Camaro while traveling southbound, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle veered off the road, struck a garage on the property off of County Road 9 before crashing into a cement barrier and colliding with a barn, where it came to a stop.
Manhardt was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Authorities are still investigating factors into the cause of the crash.
