Injury crash at US 20 and State Road 15 leads to power outage

Dozens of homes in Elkhart County lost power after a crash brought down several utlity lines. It happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the intersection of State Road 15 and U.S. 20.

The collision involved 2 pick-up trucks and an SUV. Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators say the crash happened when a 21-year-old Elkhart man in one of the drugs ran a red light at the interseciotn, crashed into a power pole, and then into a gas pump at the Speedway store, then struck the other pickup.

The Elkhart man was thrown from his vehicle. He was ejected from the truck, suffered head injuries and was unconscious when medics arrived.

Power was restored to the homes a few hours later.
