One man is in custody after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.

Around 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, an Elkhart officer attempted to pull over a stolen van from Wisconsin.

The driver disregarded the officer and continued to flee, leading officers on a pursuit before it ended at the Middlebury off-ramp on the Toll Road. The suspect allegedly barricaded himself in the vehicle and refused to exit.

Chemical irritants and gas were deployed inside the vehicle with no success, and a K9 had to assist to apprehend the suspect.

The man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.
