Elkhart Fire Department crews were called to fight a fire at an apartment building on Visscher Drive.

The blaze happened just around 7:40 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31.

Crews arrived to find morning heavy smoke and flames in the living room.

The fire was extinguished quickly.

The apartment’s sole occupant was taken to the hospital for treatment of burns sustained from the fire.

The fire was classified as “accidental.”

No other injuries were reported.
