The avian flu continues to spread among wild birds in Michigan.

Officials in the state believe more than 300 geese and other wild birds have fallen victim to the virus, which continues to spread quickly around the state’s wild flocks.

Bridge Michigan reports that bird carcasses are being sent to a national laboratory to confirm their cause of death. Early diagnostics suggested bird flu. Officials believe waterfowl will manage to avoid much of the die-off problems…but bigger birds, such as the state’s eagle population, may not be so lucky if the virus continues to spread.

Avian flu has been blamed for 147 bird deaths in commercial and backyard flocks, contributing to rise in egg prices.
