A LaPorte man has entered a not guilty plea after allegedly backing over a 2-year-old boy in a driveway, causing serious injuries.
Eric Levine, 54, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated, and driving with a suspended license.
Police say Levine had been helping the child’s stepfather fix a car. As he backed out of the driveway, he hit the child. Officers later found Levine at his home showing signs of impairment.
According to court documents, he admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day and again after the incident.
His trial is scheduled for early September.
WSBT reports the boy is now being treated at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
