A plan to rezone over 1,000 acres of farmland for industrial use has moved forward to the Land Use Planning Committee.

The change could make way for a new data center just north of the Amazon site under construction and near the future GM electric vehicle battery plant.

The County Council also approved an expansion for Microsoft’s data center in Granger, adding 40 acres to the project.

Some residents and local leaders are concerned about the increasing traffic and rapid industrial growth.

Microsoft plans to complete a traffic study by early July to address these concerns.
