Elkhart man injured in fiery crash at County Roads 14, 21

An Elkhart man was injured early when his vehicle crashed and caught fire near the intersection of County Road 14 and County Road 21.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the 22-year-old man was driving eastbound on County Road 14 around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, when he lost control of his Chevrolet Equinox while approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed. The vehicle left the road, struck a utility pole and street sign, then continued across County Road 21 before crashing into a tree.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll onto its driver’s side and ignite. The driver managed to escape through the passenger-side door before the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

He sustained a head laceration, a black eye, and cuts to his left forearm and lower leg. He was taken to Goshen General Hospital for treatment.
