One person killed, 11 injured in shooting in Elkhart

A shooting in Elkhart left one person dead and eleven others injured, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Officers responded around 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of West Garfield Avenue. When police arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims. Authorities say twelve people were ultimately taken or arrived at area hospitals with gunshot wounds. One of the victims later died.

Police and crime scene technicians worked through the night, processing evidence along the 200 to 400 block of W. Garfield Avenue and surrounding areas.

There was no word of any suspects or arrests as 7 a.m. on Sunday. Some of those injured individuals had already been treated for their injuries and released from area hospitals.  Additionally, initial investigation indicates that multiple individuals discharged firearms during the incident.
