The Safe Zones program by the Indiana Department of Transportation is expanding to Lake County, with enforcement starting on July 7 in the I-65 construction zone near Lowell.
The program aims to slow down drivers and create safer conditions for road workers and passengers.
Violators traveling 11 mph or more over the speed limit will receive violation notices via mail, with fines increasing for subsequent violations.
INDOT says the initiative has been successful in reducing speeding in other areas and prioritizes safety for all road users.
