Man killed by falling tree limb in South Bend; Wife injured

A man from the Indianapolis area has died after being struck by a falling tree limb in downtown South Bend.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, in the 600 block of West Washington Street. South Bend Police officers were called to the scene following reports that a large tree had fallen and injured two pedestrians.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim with severe injuries. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, who was also injured, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been publicly released.

The couple was visiting from the Indianapolis area.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
