Two drivers were hospitalized following a crash between a semi and a pickup on the Indiana Toll Road.
It happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, near mile marker 108, when Indiana State Police say a Freightliner box truck was pulling out of a truck lot and tried to merge into eastbound traffic. As the truck accelerated, it was struck from behind by a Chevrolet flatbed pickup hauling a boat and towing an empty trailer.
The driver of the pickup, 39-year-old Burlington, Wisconsin man was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated. He was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The semi driver, a 54-year-old Taylor, Michigan man was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of pain.
The collision remains under investigation.
