Significant drops in violent crime are being reported this year in Benton Harbor and Benton Township.

Shootings are down in Benton Harbor by 75% compared to 2024’s numbers. No homicides were reported in the first eight months…which is a 100% drop.

Public Safety Director Dan McGinnis told WSJM these numbers “are huge,” and he credits the great police officers and detectives working in the community — along with help from the State Police, Berrien County Sheriff’s, and the court system.

In the Township, Police Chief Brian Abrams reports a 50% drop in non-fatal shootings, and no homicides so far this year.
