Elkhart man arrested after alleged deadly hitt-and-run collision

An arrest has been made after one man died and another was hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Elkhart.

The collision happened early Saturday morning, Aug. 16.

Police said a moped was hit from behind by a Lincoln Town Car at County Road 4 and Delta Court.

The driver and passenger, who were not wearing helmets, were thrown from the moped and suffered head injuries.

The operator of the moped, 35-year-old James Thoman of Mishawaka, died at the hospital.

23 year-old Joseph Bailey of Elkhart, the driver of the car, was arrested on two separate counts of leaving the scene of a crash.
