Community members are invited to take part in the annual March to the Memorial on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, honoring the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Participants will gather at 8:30 a.m. at Martin’s Super Market, 902 Erskine Plaza, with the walk officially stepping off at 9:11 a.m. The route covers approximately 21 miles at a steady pace of three miles per hour, with seven scheduled rest stops at area fire stations. Walkers may join at any stop along the way or meet the group at the final destination, the 9/11 Memorial at St. Patrick’s County Park, around 6:45 p.m.
The event is free and open to all. Organizers encourage participants to register in advance so food and drinks can be provided along the route. Large or small American flags are welcome, and walkers are encouraged to carry them throughout the journey.
The march is designed as both a remembrance and a symbol. Organizers say the 21-mile distance represents a “walking 21-gun salute,” while the shared experience offers participants “a sample of life in America after 9/11,” emphasizing unity and community spirit.
