South Bend Police are investigating a shooting that left a one-year-old girl wounded.

Officers were called to the 2000 block of Johnson Street around 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 9 after reports of gunfire. While responding, police learned that family members had taken the child to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Her injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

According to investigators, the child was inside a home with several other people when shots were fired from outside the residence, striking her inside. No other injuries were reported.

Detectives with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit worked overnight to pursue leads in the case.
