Plans for a new $12 million data center in New Carlisle face trouble after the St. Joseph County Area Plan Commission gave it an unfavorable recommendation.
County Council President Dan Schaetzle says many residents feel “data center fatigue” after challenges with the Amazon project already under construction.
While the new site could bring in up to $22 million a year in tax revenue, he says leaders must also weigh the impact on neighbors.
Schaetzle believes the county should see how Amazon’s center operates before adding another project. The county council is set to vote on September 23.
