State Budget Committee approves $15.79 million request for new federal immigration detention agreement

The State Budget Committee approved a $15.79 million request from the Indiana Department of Correction to prepare Miami Correctional Facility for a new federal immigration detention agreement.
The funding will cover infrastructure upgrades and equipment purchases, including enhancements to perimeter fencing, temporary housing structures, and drug detection systems.
The agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement commits Indiana to provide detention services for adult men classified as medium-maximum security.
