A South Bend man died following a two-vehicle crash on Cleveland Road near Swanson Drive.

St. Joseph County Police were dispatched to the scene around 1:30 p.m.on Wednesday, Nov. 5, where they found a collision between a pickup truck and a passenger car. The driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle, identified as 72-year-old Edward Joseph Dunne of South Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to initial reports, Dunne was traveling eastbound on Cleveland Road when his vehicle crossed the center line, striking a westbound pickup truck driven by 51-year-old Joshua Alexander Smith of Mishawaka.

Smith, who cooperated with authorities, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is investigating the incident.
