Elkhart Community Schools has approved a new teacher pay agreement that keeps starting salaries unchanged.
Superintendent Larry Huff says the district’s financial challenges and declining enrollment left no room for raises, as state law prevents bargaining that would create new debt.
Teacher salaries will stay between $46,000 and $83,000 for the current school year.
Huff says the district is exploring consolidation options to improve the district’s finances.
