Goshen man arrested after welfare check turns violent

A welfare check at The Willows apartment complex led to the arrest of a Goshen man after he allegedly injured a police officer during a struggle.
Goshen Police were called to the 200 block of The Willows around 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, for a report of a 45-year-old man in mental crisis. Officers determined the man posed a danger to himself and others and attempted to detain him for emergency evaluation.
Police say the man resisted and struck an officer, causing a head laceration.
The man, identified as Andrew Ickes, was taken to Goshen Hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into the Elkhart County Jail. He faces charges of resisting law enforcement causing bodily injury and battery on a law enforcement officer causing bodily injury.
