Indiana State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla is among 90 state officials urging federal leaders to take immediate action on the nation’s rising debt.

Nieshalla, who chairs the National Debt Crisis Task Force, helped send a letter to President Donald Trump and Congress warning that the nation’s $38 trillion debt poses severe long-term risks.

The letter follows last year’s initial call from state financial officers that led to the first National Debt Crisis Forum in Washington this fall.

Support for the effort continues to grow, with Indiana Governor Mike Braun and lawmakers nationwide joining the push.

The coalition is calling for a concrete plan to balance the budget and reduce the debt by July 4th, 2026.
