Inflation has driven food costs higher – and utility bills across the region are up as well – but by varied amounts.
New data shows utility costs across the Midwest remain mixed in 2025.
According to move.org, Indiana residents pay about $537 a month, placing the state near the national midpoint.
Michigan reports some of the lowest costs in the region, with average monthly utilities at $482, ranking 41st nationwide. Ohio households pay an average of $59 a month for utilities, ranking 11th highest nationwide and accounting for nearly 9 percent of monthly income.
