A man accused of robbing a gas station in Elkhart has been sentenced in Elkhart County Circuit Court.

45 year old Adam Hoopingarner was charged in connection with the robbery of the Phillips 66 gas station on South Main Street in September 2024.

Police say the cashier was threatened by a man armed with a long rifle, upset over not receiving enough gas. Investigators say the suspect threatened to kill the attendants, claiming he had killed before. Surveillance footage was released, and Hoopingarner was later detained at a Walmart.

The Goshen News says he pleaded guilty in December to intimidation, a Level 5 felony, and was sentenced to four years, with two years on probation.
