The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is warning Hoosiers about a new text message scam impersonating the agency.
Officials say the latest scam includes links that closely mimic a State of Indiana website and direct users to a fake BMV page designed to look legitimate.
The fraudulent site can even generate fake BMV receipts and confirmation numbers to trick customers into believing payments were processed. Authorities say these messages should be considered fraudulent.
The public is urged to ignore and delete the texts and never click the links. The BMV stresses it will never request payment through a link sent in a text message or send SMS notices about outstanding penalties.
