Indiana added more than 38,000 residents in 2025, bringing the state’s population to nearly 7 million.

That’s according to the Indiana Business Research Center. While growth slowed slightly from the previous year, it still ranks as Indiana’s seventh-largest annual increase in the past two decades.

Researchers say migration is now the primary driver of growth, accounting for more than 80 percent of gains, while natural increase has declined.

Indiana’s growth rate outpaced several neighboring states and came in slightly above the national average, ranking 22nd overall in the U.S.
