Two men are in custody and a third remains on the run following a fatal shooting in South Bend earlier this year.
Police say officers responded to reports of gunfire on January 25 in the 700 block of North Brookfield Street, where they found 48-year-old Jiffery Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation, gathering evidence and conducting multiple interviews.
Detectives have identified three suspects in the case: 29-year-old Chavez Norwood of Chicago, 32-year-old Tyree Bonds of South Bend, and 26-year-old Daishawn Rowan of Chicago.
Authorities say all three have been charged with murder in coordination with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
Norwood and Bonds have been arrested and remain in custody. Rowan, however, is still being sought and is believed to be in the Chicago area.
Police warn Rowan should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach and to call 911 immediately.
