LaPorte County leaders are working on rules for data centers.
The county plan commission has reviewed a proposal that would set limits on where and how data centers can be built in unincorporated areas.
The group voted 8-1 to send it to county commissioners with a recommendation to move it forward. Commissioner Joe Haney says the goal is not to stop data centers, but to set clear rules.
Building commissioner Michael Polan says the proposal has been revised several times and is ready for the next step.
People at the meeting raised concerns about long-term impacts and asked for clearer language. Some also questioned moving it forward without changes.
