A trial date has been scheduled for a man accused of killing his wife nearly two decades ago in South Bend.
Lucio Lerma Sr. is set to stand trial beginning July 13 after being indicted in the cold case death of his wife, Delia Lerma. Investigators say Delia disappeared on December 4, 2007, after leaving her home on South Bend’s west side to visit a nearby store. She was later found dead inside a van days after her husband reported her missing.
Authorities say she had been stabbed. Lerma has pleaded not guilty and was initially held without bond. A bail review hearing is scheduled for May 6 as both sides continue to file motions and exchange evidence ahead of trial.
