LaPorte County officials move forward with data center rules

Officials in LaPorte County are moving forward with new rules for data centers.
County commissioners unanimously backed a proposed ordinance that would limit where data centers can be built and set rules for noise, traffic, and water use.
The proposal comes after concerns surrounding a planned Microsoft data center project.
The ordinance would keep data centers in industrial areas and help protect farmland.
Officials say the plan is similar to rules already used in Lake County.
The proposal still must be reviewed by the LaPorte County Area Plan Commission.
