Michigan City Mayor issues statement about after-prom deadly shooting

One juvenile is dead and two others were seriously hurt after a shooting in Porter County.Juvenile dead, two injured in Porter County shooting Police were called just before 11 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 1700 block of Liberty Avenue in Pike Township for a disturbance that escalated into gunfire. Michigan City High School officials confirm students were involved.

Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch issued a statement Sunday, calling the shooting a tragedy that has left the community in pain on Mother’s Day. The mayor said her thoughts are with the families, classmates, and friends affected by the violence. She also urged people to stop spreading harmful rumors and videos online and instead show compassion for those grieving.

The City of Michigan City says it’s working with Michigan City Area Schools and Porter County investigators as the investigation continues. Additional support resources are expected to be made available for students and staff in the coming days. Police are asking anyone who was at the home during the incident to contact investigators.
