A North Judson man is dead following a motorcycle crash in LaPorte County.

According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, to the area of State Road 39 and County Road 950 South for a reported personal injury motorcycle crash.

Investigators say 69-year-old Eddie L. Smith was riding a 1993 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on State Road 39 when the motorcycle crossed left of center, traveled across the northbound lane, and went off the east side of the roadway.

Smith was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities say he later died from his injuries.

Investigators say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
