A man was arrested following a domestic violence incident at an apartment complex in Mishawaka.

Mishawaka Police responded just after 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15, to The Element at St. Andrews apartment complex on St. Andrews Circle after a 19-year-old woman reported being battered by her boyfriend.

Police say the woman told dispatchers the suspect was armed with a handgun, threatened to shoot her and would not allow her to leave the apartment.

Officers began evacuating the apartment building while preparing for a possible SWAT response. The suspect later exited the apartment and was taken into custody after officers deployed a TASER.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is facing preliminary felony charges of domestic violence battery, criminal confinement and intimidation. Formal charges remain pending review by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
