Suspect in GoLo gas station shooting in South Bend arrested

A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a weekend shooting at a South Bend gas station.

South Bend Police responded around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, May 17, to the GoLo gas station in the 1900 block of South Miami Street on reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit later identified 48-year-old Manuel Moncayo III as the suspect.

Moncayo was arrested Monday, May 18, in Mishawaka with assistance from the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT Team, Mishawaka Street Crimes and the Mishawaka Police Department.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Moncayo with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and battery by means of a deadly weapon.

He is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.
