A Texas man has been charged in connection with a deadly motorcycle crash in St. Joseph County last year.
Edward Fabian Ochoa faces two felony charges: causing death while operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more and causing death while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The charges stem from a crash in July 2025 at the intersection of IN-933 and Cleveland Road.
According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck. Police said the motorcyclist, Ricki Balmer, was found unconscious with a severe leg injury.
Balmer was transported to a hospital, where he died less than 24 hours later.
Court documents state officers spoke with Ochoa and a passenger at the scene. The pair reportedly told investigators they had been on a date earlier in the evening and had consumed alcohol before the crash. They also allegedly told police they were attempting to cross IN-933 when the collision happened.
Authorities said testing later showed Ochoa’s blood alcohol concentration was .324, which is more than four times Indiana’s legal limit.
Ochoa is scheduled to appear for an initial hearing on June 3.
