A Mexican national living illegally in the United States has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison on firearm and immigration-related charges.
Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Oscar Solano-Salinas was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Cristal C. Brisco to 41 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by an illegal alien and reentry of a removed alien.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana, Solano-Salinas had previously been deported twice before illegally returning to the country again.
Prosecutors say Solano-Salinas was first removed from the United States in July 2010 following two sexual battery convictions in Cass County involving separate victims. Authorities say he illegally reentered the country about six months later and was deported a second time before returning again in 2011.
Investigators executed a search warrant at Solano-Salinas’ Logansport home in November 2025, where they reportedly found a Winchester rifle and ammunition.
U.S. Attorney Adam Mildred said Solano-Salinas was prohibited from possessing firearms because of both his felony convictions and his immigration status.
Federal officials say the investigation involved multiple agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Logansport Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Monticello Police Department.
After serving his sentence, Solano-Salinas is expected to be removed from the United States again.
