Live fire training planned at South Bend International Airport

Residents near South Bend International Airport may notice smoke rising from the airfield this week as firefighters participate in live fire training exercises.
Airport officials say the training will take place Tuesday through Thursday, June 9 through June 11, from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at the live fire training facility located on the northwest corner of the airport property.
The exercises will include controlled live burns designed to help firefighters practice emergency response techniques in a realistic environment.
Officials emphasized that the training will not affect flight operations at the airport.
