Lafayette Blvd. remains closed after building fire

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)
Lafayette Boulevard remains closed after last week’s fire at the Lafayette Building in downtown South Bend.
The South Bend Department of Public Works says the road will stay closed until structural engineers inspect the building and determine it is safe.
Officials expect the closure to continue into next week. The fire heavily damaged the historic building, causing part of the roof to collapse.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
