A suspect is in custody after police say an armed disturbance in Lincoln Township was brought under control by citizens before officers arrived.

According to the Lincoln Charter Township Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, July 31, to the 2500 block of West Glenlord Road for a report of a fight involving a firearm.

When officers arrived, they found that bystanders had restrained the alleged armed suspect until law enforcement reached the scene. Officers took the suspect into custody and recovered the firearm believed to have been used during the incident.

Police said no injuries were reported.

The suspect was lodged at the Berrien County Jail and is awaiting arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Lincoln Township Police Department.

Lincoln Township police were assisted by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police.

Police also praised the citizens who intervened, saying their quick actions helped bring the situation to a safe conclusion and may have prevented further harm.
