Child drowns in Lake Michigan off Michigan City shoreline

A child has drowned in the waters of Lake Michigan.

Michigan City police were called to the area of Lake Shore Drive and Shawmut Drive shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, on the report of a juvenile struggling in the water.

First responders pulled the juvenile from the lake and performed life-saving measures before taking them to a hospital.

The child was later pronounced dead.
