The Indiana Court of Appeals has dismissed the state Attorney General’s appeal in the ICE cooperation lawsuit against the St. Joseph County Sheriff.
The suit targets Sheriff Bill Redman’s alleged failure to cooperate with ICE agents.
Attorney General Todd Rokita accused the department of not properly notifying ICE agents about the release of undocumented immigrants, and refusing to honor ICE detainers. The County Sheriff’s Office has denied any wrongdoing. Rokita originally filed the lawsuit in January of last year.
WNDU reports that the state’s Court of Appeals made a decision Wednesday to dismiss Rokita’s appeal because recent legislative amendments to immigration enforcement statutes rendered the challenge under the old law moot.
