Thousands of Northwest Indiana residents have filed a class action lawsuit against NIPSCO, saying the utility’s poor reliability and neglectful tree trimming caused widespread, preventable power outages.
Attorneys at the Allen Law Group argue NIPSCO fails to proactively trim vegetation on a standard five-to-seven-year cycle, leaving residents to deal with severe health risks, medical delays, and property damage.

Good! AEP isn’t much better, they came through and “marked” a few trees on my land several years ago… Guess what? The trees still aren’t trimmed, and sometimes they arc and smoulder off the power lines.
Maybe a successful suit against NIPSCO will inspire everyone else to step up their game.
Hi Monique, Brown lives in Gary Indiana. I went through a real horrible disaster with no power for nine days extra 10 days all my foods for my kids can go to school to go online. I couldn’t even do the schoolwork. The Wi-Fi was out and I feel that we should be compensated for something because this is really sad the way they’re really doing us on top of that. They wanna charge us all this extra money for what?
My power went August 11, 2026. And did not come back on until August 23, 2026. A tree fell and knocked out a power line to my house.
