The Elkhart County Emergency Management Agency has some new equipment to help crews respond during severe weather and other emergencies.

The Indiana Michigan Power Foundation helped the county purchase a dozen new emergency response radios to replace aging equipment.

Officials say the radios will improve communication between first responders and different emergency agencies during storms, flooding and other disasters.

The I&M Foundation has also supported emergency preparedness projects elsewhere in northeast Indiana, including a tornado siren and a mass-casualty response vehicle.
