Amtrak’s preferred plan for upgrading its St. Joseph station would move passenger operations across the tracks from Silver Beach Pizza.
Amtrak and city officials favor the proposal known as Option C, which would place the station on the west side of the tracks and add accessible parking and safety fencing.
Officials say the move would improve pedestrian safety, shorten construction and avoid disrupting the restaurant’s business or parking lot.
The changes are needed to meet federal accessibility standards by 2029. Construction is not expected to begin until 2028, and the design remains preliminary.
