SBCS targeted in fraud scheme

South Bend Community Schools says it was targeted in a fraud scheme involving one of its vendors.
The vendor’s system was hacked, and its payment information was changed. That led to an attempt to send the vendor more than $1 million.
The district caught the payment before it was completed, so no money was lost.
School officials are reviewing the incident and the district’s payment process to see whether additional safeguards are needed.
